Choosing a Foundation Color

Historically women of color have had to choose from foundation colors that are not based on actual skin tone and undertone but cultural stereotypes about skin color. Many women have been sold foundation not because it matches their complexion but because it was the closest match in an already limited selection.

1) Answering the questions below may help you choose your color (Warm Undertones). - Is your skin tan to deep brown with golden, yellow, orange, or olive-green undertones? - Does exposure to the sun make you look golden brown?- Are the veins in your wrist mostly olive-green in color? - Does gold tone jewelry look best on you? - Do you look best wearing yellow, burgundy, brown, beige, tan, orange, or green clothes (color chart above)? |

If you are comfortable choosing the shade but not the undertone, choose samples from left to right (left/right across categories). If you are comfortable choosing the undertone but not the shade, choose samples from top to bottom (up/down columns categories).
Once you receive and use your Valana Minerals® remember that appearance may change depending on the source of light. We suggest that when choosing your Valana Minerals® foundation that you check your best color match in natural sunlight and wait 10 to 15 minutes after application to allow the minerals to blend with the natural oils in your skin.
