Ancient Makeup - Not just in your makeup bag





model Well it looks like "glitter or shimmer" makeup has been around longer than first thought. Researchers have long established that Ancient Egyptians made and used color cosmetics over 10,000 years ago. New research shows that some of their cosmetics even had medicinal properties that may have provided a boost to the human immune system even though they contained toxic levels of lead. But now researchers have discovered that Neanderthals created and used “glimmer and shimmer” makeup and color cosmetics. Yes, cavefolks adorned themselves with makeup and jewelry as much as 50,000 years ago. And, they used some of the same ingredients used to make color cosmetics today (without the lead). Amazing! So, next time you read one of those helpful articles that reminds you to throw out your old makeup, you have a great excuse for holding on. You’re saving it for the archeologist who will dig it up in 10,000 years. I wonder what they’ll say about us and our mineral makeup?
